Michael Doherty

Full Professor of Law, and Head of the School of Law & Criminology, at Maynooth University (National University of Ireland, Maynooth). He has particular expertise in the areas of Irish and EU Employment and Labour Law, industrial relations and social dialogue. He has published widely in national and international outlets on these topics and presented his work at numerous domestic and international conferences. He has worked on a number of projects for the European Commission and European Parliament on cross-border working terms and conditions, as part of European-wide research networks, most lately on VIRAL (Varieties of Industrial Relations in Aviation Lockdown; VS-2021-0188). He is a member of several European research networks looking at Employment Law, and Company Law, in the EU. He is a frequent media contributor on labour market issues. During 2021-2022, he was Chair of a High-Level Working Group set up by the Irish Government to reform the collective bargaining landscape in Ireland, which published its report in October 2022.
